With volunteers (50 unique volunteers totaling 360 hours) and a youth crew (seven people totaling 560 hours) we were able to work on buffelgrass and fountain grass control in Pima Canyon every month of the year from October 2017 – October 2018. We led teams of volunteers into Pima Canyon to manually remove buffelgrass with digging bars and pickaxes twice per month, with the exception of July and August when excessive heat posed a risk for volunteers. Volunteers were able to clear approximately 1.5 acres of extremely dense buffelgrass and cleared 13 acres of sparse buffelgrass. Through the Americorps American Conservation Experience Program, in which youth gain skills and knowledge in on-the-ground conservation work in a variety of landscapes, we hired seven youth from Texas and Arizona who sprayed invasive grass with herbicide and manually removed invasive grass on steep slopes. The crew treated 30.5 acres of buffelgrass and fountain grass in Pima Canyon
