Tumamoc Hill is a culturally and ecologically significant site in Tucson, AZ. It is currently an 860-acre ecological reserve and research station much loved by the people of Tucson, and owned and operated by the University of Arizona College of Science in partnership with Pima Co. The hill boasts at least 2,500 years of human use. A great summary of the human use of the hill can be found on the University of Arizona site tumamoc.arizona.edu/about/tumamoc-hill-timeline
Buffelgrass control was suspended for eight years. With the appointment of Ben Wilder as the new Interim Director of Tumamoc, buffelgrass control has been restarted. We began this process by re-mapping the infestation and controlling buffelgrass on the West slopes near the research buildings. |
Spraying Buffelgrass |
2018-20192018 and 2019 were very dry years in Tucson which makes it difficult to treat buffelgrass with herbicide. However, through a collaboration between ASDM, University of Arizona, and Pima Co. we were able to treat all past acreage and continue to push forward into new territory. Some great progress was made in the effort to reclame Tumamoc.
